Hi everyone, I'm Dave's wife, Lyn*, just dropping in for a quick chat!

I've sent Dave off to the garden so I could commandeer his blog. It's time for me to share my side of our Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, story.

Despite his grumbling, I know I'm very lucky to have my Dave. We've had a lovely life together. And while our life is great now, for a while there it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

A year or two ago, I started noticing that Dave would be up to go to the toilet multiple times a night. We'd go out for dinner or to a movie, and he'd frequently disappear from the table. I'd be sitting by myself so often, people must have thought I'd been stood up! But, like most little health problems, Dave didn't seem too worried, so I let him be.

After a few months, I started to notice him getting more and more frustrated. He'd mention how embarrassed he was about being caught out at the office, and a good night's sleep was a distant memory for both of us. I knew he was trying to be quiet as he got out of bed each time, but when there's a sense of urgency, there's only so much you can do.

I remember realising one afternoon, with both of us falling asleep on the sofa after yet another sleepless night, that I had to do something. It was affecting both our lives, and I knew his confidence was taking a hit. It took a bit of convincing, but I booked him in to see the family doctor after doing a bit of online research. When he eventually stopped grumbling, he saw the doctor and after a few tests he was able to start treatment.

Today, things are so much better and I'm so glad I made that appointment! I haven't been so relieved to get a good night's sleep since the kids were little. Of course, Dave will tell you now that it was all his idea, but I'm happy to let him think that. It can be our secret!

Remember, if you or someone you love is suffering from similar problems to my Dave, relief could be just around the corner and it starts with making that appointment to see your doctor. Trust me, it's worth it, if only for watching a movie the whole way through in one go!
